Slovenia has had a reputation of a clean and beautiful country for a long time. And also as a green country. In 2016, the American Yale University mentioned Slovenia as the fifth greenest country in the world. But the adjective “green” can be deceptive. It can for example only mean that a country is scarcely settled or that it has intense agriculture. Which is definitely not true for Slovenia. Slovenia is a country with exceptional biodiversity and landscape diversity.
The Community of Natural Parks was founded in 2011 and currently connects 15 managers of protected areas. They are connected by the common interest for the conservation of nature and in order to maintain the balance between efficient nature conservation, cultural heritage and on the other hand various activities in protected areas. The protected areas or parks, and also reserves, are not areas which completely prohibit human access. They are only areas where each human activity, including tourism, must be well thought through.
